I’ve never been someone who overshares, especially when it comes to my personal life and the struggles I’ve faced. It’s not that I’m secretive, but I’ve always been more of a private person. However, as I’ve watched loved ones go through health challenges—some preventable and others not—I felt a growing sense of responsibility. The last thing I want is to see someone I care about end up in a hospital bed, dealing with conditions that could have been prevented with some simple changes in diet and lifestyle.
We’re living in a time where the healthcare system often feels more like “sick care.” It’s a system focused on managing diseases and treating symptoms rather than truly getting to the root causes of health issues. You go from one specialist to another, each one treating a different symptom or diagnosis, without anyone really looking at the whole picture. But our bodies aren’t just a collection of separate parts—they’re an interconnected system that needs to be treated as a whole.
This realization was a turning point for me. I started to see how our modern lifestyle, our food choices, and even the way we think about health are all contributing to a decline in overall well-being. The food industry, in particular, is something that frustrates me to no end. So many products on the shelves are designed to boost profits, not health. As consumers, we’re left to navigate this minefield, often without the knowledge or resources to make the best choices. And even when we want to do better, the healthiest options are often out of reach—either too expensive or just not easily accessible.
For a long time, I thought about sharing my journey—maybe starting a blog or something. But I kept putting it off. “It’s too late,” I’d tell myself. “Who would even read it?” But then, something changed. I started hearing more and more misinformation about blood sugar, Type 2 diabetes, and the role of carbs in our diet. People kept saying things like, “It’s genetic, there’s nothing you can do,” or “Just cut out all the carbs.” It was infuriating because I knew from my research and personal experience that these statements weren’t entirely true. I wanted to help people see that there’s so much more we can do to take control of our health.
My story might not be the same as yours, but there are likely some similarities. And even if you don’t have diabetes, you should still care about your blood sugar. I’ve often heard people say, “My glucose is fine, but my blood pressure or cholesterol is high.” What they don’t realize is that these could be early signs of glucose issues that just haven’t shown up in the lab results yet. I want to bring this to light and break the stigma that tracking glucose is only for diabetics.
Believe me, I used to be terrified of getting diabetes. I didn’t understand it at all. I remember when I worked for the YMCA, they had a diabetes prevention program, and I just wanted to stay as far away from it as possible. I didn’t want to deal with it, and I didn’t know if there was anything I could do to prevent it. I was told by so many people that “it just happens sometimes.” But what if that’s not entirely true? What if there’s more we can do?
That’s why I started Glucose Glow Up. I want to share the knowledge I’ve gained and the steps I’ve taken to improve my health. In future blog posts, I’ll dive deeper into how I got here, including my experience navigating the healthcare system with an unexplained infertility diagnosis. But for now, I just want to say that my goal is to keep people out of hospitals and help them live more vibrant, healthy lives.
So, what is Glucose Glow Up? My vision for it is still growing, but it started as a way for me to share my personal testimony on how managing my blood sugar as a non-diabetic has helped my health and my unexplained infertility journey.
But it’s more than just that. Glucose Glow Up is a movement. It’s about empowering ourselves to take control of our health, starting with the fundamental understanding of how our blood sugar impacts every aspect of our well-being. It’s about shifting the narrative that blood sugar management is only for diabetics and recognizing that everyone can benefit from stable glucose levels.
When I started my journey, I had no idea how deeply blood sugar affected everything—energy levels, mood, hormonal balance, even fertility. I was dealing with unexplained infertility, and it wasn’t until I started focusing on my glucose levels that I saw real changes. That’s when I realized how powerful this knowledge is.
Glucose Glow Up is also about finding that inner glow, the energy, and vitality that comes from balancing your blood sugar. It’s about feeling your best, both physically and mentally, and having the tools to maintain that balance no matter what life throws at you. It’s about making informed choices that support your health, not just in the short term but for the long haul.
Glucose Glow Up is more than just a blog or a podcast. It’s a community of people who are committed to living healthier, more vibrant lives. It’s a space where we can share our stories, our struggles, and our successes. And as this community grows, so does the collective knowledge and support that we can offer each other.
This project brings me so much joy, and I’m excited to see where it goes. As I continue to learn and grow, Glucose Glow Up will evolve too, and I’m thrilled to have you along for the ride.
Why now? That’s a great question, and honestly, I don’t have a perfect answer. I originally put all of this away, thinking I’d never revisit it.
But then my husband, Mike—who’s been my biggest support through all of this—said, “I was hoping you’d do this someday.” He’s seen me through everything and never questioned anything I did, researched, or tried to get us to this point. Our health was our top priority, and finding answers was all we cared about.
I think I finally reached a tipping point. I had recently decided to leave a job to spend more time with my daughter, which gave me the space and energy to be creative. I prayed a lot, and one day, while I was at a coffee shop, I felt this inspiration to start “blogging” about blood sugar management. Within a few hours, I had a name, branding ideas, and three blogs written. It all felt so natural, and knowing that I got results for myself made me think, “Why can’t others see results from my work too?”
So, while I’m not exactly sure why now, I do know that I feel called to do this. Glucose Glow Up lights me up and makes me feel like I’m working towards my purpose. If I can help even a few people with my work, it will be worth it.
My vision for Glucose Glow Up is to help others wherever you are in your journey, or even if you’re just a little curious and want to learn how to optimize your health.
