November 4, 2024

In 2019, when I first started exploring the idea of family, I never anticipated that my journey to motherhood would become a path of personal transformation. Despite every hopeful check-in, my cycle never returned, and my fertility concerns grew deeper with each passing month. Little did I know, this was just the beginning of a journey that would ultimately lead me to redefine my approach to health and wellness.

In this episode, join a personal journey through unexplained fertility struggles, unexpected roadblocks, and a powerful decision to shift from conventional medicine to a more holistic approach. Hear about the pivotal steps taken to reconnect with and support the body naturally, leading to a path of restored health and fertility.

  • What was learned along the way and steps taken to support the body naturally.

Starting with Birth Control: Ready for a Family, Facing Unexpected Challenges

In the summer of 2019, my husband and I were ready for the next step. I came off birth control, armed with the idea that my body would seamlessly fall back into its natural rhythm within a few short months. Unfortunately, that wasn’t my experience. Each check-in with my doctor felt like a brick wall, with no answers in sight. After a year, I was still waiting, filled with frustration and looking for any insight that could explain what was happening.

At one point, I wondered if my elevated glucose levels might play a role. My doctors assured me that my glucose was within the “normal” range and wouldn’t impact my cycle. But my instincts told me otherwise. Feeling like I was being dismissed, I continued searching for information. I requested further testing, hoping to uncover some underlying hormonal imbalance or overlooked factor. The response I received was to try Provera, a medication to induce a bleed, as a first step toward investigating my hormone levels. But even this prescribed path didn’t sit right with me.

Going Against the Grain: Seeking Holistic Health Answers

After taking the first couple of Provera pills, I had a gut feeling that this wasn’t my solution. I couldn’t shake the thought that these temporary measures were just band-aids over a deeper issue. Finally, I decided to take control of my own health journey. I paused the Provera and picked up the phone to call a naturopath I’d been researching. It was a pivotal decision—one that marked my shift from conventional approaches to exploring a holistic view of my health. This experience opened my eyes to the systemic limitations in traditional medicine, where symptoms are often treated in isolation rather than looking at the whole body.

The shift didn’t just change my approach; it changed my outlook. I realized that I didn’t need to sit passively and wait for answers. Instead, I could start exploring other avenues and learning more about my body’s unique needs.

Diving into Research: Learning About My Body and My Health

During this time of uncertainty, I dove into research about glucose levels, fertility, and overall wellness. I came across Dr. Jolene Brighten’s Beyond the Pill, and I devoured it in a day. The book wasn’t just informative; it was a revelation. The concepts about hormone health, diet, and lifestyle changes opened up a whole new understanding of what I could be doing to support my body’s natural rhythm. It validated my feelings, reinforcing that there’s a wealth of knowledge outside the standard advice we’re often given.

My research journey taught me that doctors, especially in conventional medicine, are often trained to offer quick solutions. The system doesn’t always make room for in-depth, lifestyle-based approaches. But the more I learned, the more I realized that these natural methods had the potential to make a real difference in my fertility and health.

The Life-Changing Email: Finding Hope with a Holistic Approach

After much deliberation, I took a bold step and reached out to a naturopath. I remember the nerves, the uncertainty, and even the “what if” questions swirling in my mind. But when I hit “send” on that email, a glimmer of hope started to break through the clouds. I soon received a reply that shifted everything: “Yes, I most certainly can help you get your cycle back, and we can work on fertility so your body is healthy for a beautiful baby.” Those words felt like a lifeline. For the first time, I felt like my concerns were valid, and my journey had a clear direction.

This holistic practitioner suggested immediate lab work and specific, natural supplements that aligned with my body’s unique needs—no medications, no temporary solutions, just a personalized plan aimed at getting to the root cause. And the results spoke for themselves: after three months of following her recommendations, my cycle returned! It was a milestone that didn’t just mark physical progress; it renewed my belief in the power of advocating for oneself and exploring all available options.

A Journey to Self-Advocacy and Holistic Health

My experience navigating this fertility journey taught me an invaluable lesson: you are the best advocate for your health. Sometimes, it’s necessary to question conventional advice, especially if it doesn’t feel aligned with your intuition. Doctors may be experts, but no one knows your body better than you do. So, don’t be afraid to ask questions, explore new avenues, and consider holistic approaches that prioritize long-term well-being over temporary fixes.

I’m excited to share that my journey continues as I explore natural and holistic methods to optimize my health and support my family goals. In future posts, I’ll dive deeper into actionable steps, including dietary shifts, lifestyle changes, and self-care practices that have been instrumental in my journey.

Final Thoughts: Taking Control of Your Health Journey

If you’re on a similar path—whether with fertility or other health challenges—remember, you have choices. Trust your instincts and don’t be afraid to look beyond conventional solutions. The journey to health isn’t always a straight line, but it’s worth every step.

In this space, I’m here to provide support, share insights, and hopefully inspire you to feel empowered in your own health journey. Let’s continue to glow and grow together, and remember: You in charge of your health, and every choice matters.
