I’m excited to share my journey with the Levels Health app and how it’s been a game-changer for me in managing my glucose levels. If you’re on a similar path to understanding your health and optimizing your well-being, this episode is for you!
So you already know I was on a mission to lower my glucose levels. As someone who listens to holistic and alternative health podcasts almost daily, I kept hearing about Levels Health back in 2019. Most notably, I heard Dr. Mark Hyman mention it repeatedly onThe Doctor’s Farmacy. He kept sharing a link to bypass the waiting list for the full version of the app and join their beta program.
Intrigued, I decided to do some research. I had been using a glucometer for a little while but wasn’t seeing the exact transformation I was looking for just yet. I saw their content and noticed others using continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), and I thought this might be the next step for me to help figure out how this whole glucose thing works.
Now, let’s talk about what Levels actually is. The Levels app is different from the app that comes with the CGM manufacturer. They created software that allows you to add notes and meals, which then receive a score after a two-hour window. This score, ranging from 1 to 10, shows how well or poorly a meal affected your glucose levels, depending on the size of the spike and how long your glucose remained elevated.
Back when I joined the beta program, it was a bit more limited than what you see today, but it was still incredibly powerful. You connect your CGM to the app, and it automatically pulls in your data. Once that connection is made, you’re all set to start tracking!
I applied for the beta program, which required some initial information. Once I was approved, Levels coordinated with doctors who could write prescriptions for a CGM, since a non-diabetic isn’t typically going to get a prescription from their doctor at that time.
Once everything was settled, I received a shipment of two CGMs each month, or I could pause my subscription whenever I wanted. The beta program was a flat fee per month to use the app and get the CGMs. It was definitely an investment, but I was so ready to give it a try and dig into the data!
Each week, I received progress reports that helped me understand my glucose trends and make necessary adjustments. These reports were eye-opening! For example, I learned how certain meals impacted my levels in ways I hadn’t expected.
I also got an annual recap booklet. Im not sure if that is still a thing. Looking back, my annual report reflected significant progress. I noticed changes in my health metrics that aligned with the lifestyle adjustments I was making as a result of using Levels. It was so empowering to see tangible results!
One of my favorite features was being able to enter my meals into the app. The scoring system was easy to understand, which made it simple to track what worked for me and what didn’t. I remember specific meals that caused significant spikes, and I adapted my diet accordingly. For example, switching from regular pasta to Banza pasta made a noticeable difference in my glucose response!
To wrap up, my experience with Levels has been transformative. The insights I’ve gained from the app have not only helped me manage my glucose levels but also empowered me to take control of my health. If you’re on a similar journey, I encourage you to consider using a CGM and the Levels app to help you understand your body better.
Stay tuned for future episodes, where I’ll dive deeper into specific insights and strategies I learned during the program. And as always, I’d love to hear from you! Feel free to reach out with any questions or share your experiences with glucose management. Thanks for listening, and until next time, keep glowing!
Not all healthy foods are created equal. Some seemingly innocent choices can send our glucose levels soaring into the diabetic range, leaving us grappling with symptoms like fatigue, irritability, brain fog and feeling hangry.
